Our Tamariki take pride in caring for our learning space and they take charge of our commmnity garden. Today for Matariki we harvested our kumara that was planted in last autumn. Our tamariki have been looking after the plant for months and today. We celebrated the start of Matariki with the first harvest.
Through our Matariki celebration, our tamariki show great interest in learning about the customs and traditions surrounding Matariki. We enjoy bringing a focus on these ideas through art n craft opportunities, engaging with poi, baking and working in our garden. Our tamariki love to be involved and experience all the joys associated with the Maori new year.
Our teina children all donated some form of vegetable to be incorporated into our friendship soup to be enjoyed together.
